DAY 1: Greece taxi, drives through the fertile plain of Boeotia, driving by the town of Thebes. Proceed to Levadia, a busy town and an important junction in the road network. Also an industrial center where its textile mills treat the cotton grown in the Copais valley. The upper town is graced by white houses with jutting wooden balconies dating from the 18th C. We'll stop for a drink by the beautiful river Karya over the spot where the water springs out. In ancient times, Karya was said to be the location of the Oracle of Trofonios Zeus which included the springs of Mnemosyne (Remembrance) and the spring of Lethe (oblivion). The oracle was used as a stage before visiting the oracle of Delphi and as such, through the times, it acquired great power and riches. At noon we will arrive at Delphi. Visit Castalia Spring and the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaea , the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios and the Museum. Overnight on mount Parnassus which holds some of the most traditional villages in Greece.
DAY 2: Greece taxi takes the scenic road to Patra. A unique road which follows the coast line and let us admire the Corinthian Golf. We visit Galaxidi, a picturesque fish village ( short stop for a coffee in front water) continue to take the ferry from Antirio to Rio and we will have the chance to admire the huge suspension bridge. Continue for Diakopto. Take the rack railway, taking you through the gorge of Vouraikos to Kalavryta, a fantasy scenery that is not to be missed. Kalavryta is one of the martyred villages in Greece that were destroyed in the Second World war. Overnight on slopes of Mount Helmos.
DAY 3: Early morning visit A school Museum.... Depart for Olympia through the Arcadian Mountains, one of the most unique roads in Greece...Olympia is located NW in Peloponnese (the cradle of the Olympic Games). Visit the Sanctuary of the Olympian Zeus, Gymnasion, Fidias workshop, Hera's temple, the famous Stadion and the Archaeological Museum, one of the best in Greece. Overnight in Olympia.
DAY 4: Greece taxi departs for Messinia.. Hidden alongside the town of "Mavromati" translated means Black Eye, lies Ancient Messini which is 25 km from the major city of Kalamata. You may have heard of the famous Greek Kalamata olives which come from this region. As it is not well advertised very few tourist visit the ancient city. As we enter the ancient city we can see the Acardian gate ( a wall that circles the city which is still in a good shape). After sightseeing we can enjoy a wonderful meal at cafe Ithomi, which is owned by Niko Kountouris. From his external verandah which sits high above the ruins you obtain a full view of the ancient city whilst enjoying a cold beer of a glass of local wine.
Next we drive to Kalamata and we will take a unique scenic coastal road to Mani... Mani is an open Museum, with the tower houses and the unique morphology which combines Mountains and Sea. Drive on to Areopolis a large village (with taverns) in the typical Maniot style, tower houses and churches.
DAY 5: Visit rest of Mani... We'll visit the Caves and Museum of Diros. The cave is well organized for visitors with floating lights and colored light projectors. The guided tour consists of a boat trip (about 2km/1.25mi) along both arms of the river which splits in two in the cave. Daily 8a.m to 5p.m (2.30p.m winter) Entrance fee 12 Euro child (under 12) 5 Euro. we will visit the other villages of Mani. Visit Vathia forsaken by almost all its inhabitants, Vathia and Kita are the most impressive of the tower communities which are characteristic of the Mani. Visit Cape Tenaron and Necromantion / Poseidon Death oracle...Time for swimming in the most southern part of mainland Greece (also of Europe). Overnight in Areopolis in a traditional 17th c. mansion.
DAY 6: Leave the area of Mani to Gythion.It was the seaport of Sparta. Gytheio used to be an important port until it was destroyed in 4th century AD. Today it is the largest and most important town in Mani. ( Short stop for Photos ) Continue for Monemvasia a name which derives from moni emvasis, the Greek for "single entrance", is a truncated mass of rock attached, tentatively, to the eastern coast of Laconia by a slender modern causeway. A true island known as the "Gibraltar of Greece", Monemvasia was settled in the sixth century AD. by Lacedaemonians fleeing Sparta.
DAY 7: Greece taxi visits Sparti/Sparta. Following a unique road which passes, through gorges, rivers, tunnels, plane trees, cypresses, olive trees, mulberries and orange trees we reach Mystras. We scan its innumerable peaks, precipitous slopes and deep gorges until our gaze suddenly rests on a hill, detached from the mountain range. On the naturally defended hill of Myzithras in Lacedaimon, the ruler of the Frankish Principate of Achaia Guillaume de Villehardouin built in 1249 a strong medieval castle the "Oriokastro" which was to play an important role in the history of the last centuries of the Byzantine empire. Next we visit the Acropolis of Sparta, which is open to travelers.., Late afternoon we continue for Nafplion (overnight)
DAY 8: Greece Taxi drives in the hinterland of Epidavros to visit the sanctuary of Asklepios, the most brilliant center of healing in the ancient world and the theater ( 4th century B.C. ) one of the most perfect and the best preserved of the ancient Greek theaters. Visit Mycenae, the Homeric city of the Atreides, the city " rich in gold " of the ancient poets. Visit the Lions Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, the famous Royal Tombs of King Agamemnon. Return to Nafplion, to enjoy a swim in the crystal waters under the castle, or explore the Acronafplia castle which dates from 1500 bc.
DAY 9: Greece Taxi returns to Athens via Nemea (41 km. from Corinth) is close to the limits of the state of Argolida. This municipality is surrounded by an abundance of grapevines, which have given Nemea fame for the good wine they produce. Even in ancient times Nemea was renowned as being the place in Greek Mythology where Hercules killed the fearful lion. In the ancient site of Nemea the most notable building is the temple of Zeus ( 40c BC), The archaeological digs (which are still going on ) have brought to light baths and arenas, a stadium and foundations of other buildings. Continue for Ancient Corinth. It was from one of the richest cities and this is quite evident by its remains, including the huge Agora (market place) and Apollo's Temple (6th c . B .C.) Next we reach the Corinth canal with its breathtaking views (short stop / on the bridge, which is the highest point of the canal -80 meters high and 6 kms long- which connects the Aegean Sea to the Ionian Sea (short stop).
