I am Vasilis and I represent a group of drivers and
guides all of whom speak English French, Germany,
Spanish...at
the service of our clients and their needs as visitors
in our country. All of us are non-smokers, myself
included and we keep our air-conditioned cars fully
serviced and to high standards of cleanliness.
Me personal: My name is Vasilis, I am 33
years old and I have been a professional driver in
Greece for over 10 years. In the beginning I was driving
my father’s car, who is also a
professional driver, and
now I have my own car. I have studied mechanical
engineering at the University of Serres, which is in Northern
Greece. Although my studies are far away from the
tourism business I quickly realized that I like being a
professional driver, the most. Furthermore, I started
studying the history of Greece, its monuments and its
artifacts. The more I studied the more I was amazed by
it and I felt the need to let people from other
countries know our history better. So I started
organizing tours through Greece including the monuments,
the customers preferred to see each time, and I showed
them our history in these educational and parallel
entertaining vacations. I have worked hard at trying to
achieve my goal of giving people the holiday of a
lifetime, by helping them see the real Greece, meet the
real Greek people, sample the real Greek food and take
them to places where they will be the only people who
speak English.

At the Olympic Games of
2004 in Athens my colleagues both drivers and guides
worked for the
biggest Japanese
newspaper, the "Asahi Siboun". Transferring the
Japanese journalists and photographers to ceremonies and all the main
events for a month, not only in Athens but also in
Olympia, Volos and Thessalonica. The work was exhausting
but the experience of watching so many sports, some of
them we had never seen in our lives before, was unforgettable.
People usually choose tour
buses. Buses cannot offer much choice because they deal in mass tourism. That is
why their schedule is inflexible and usually unimaginative. They decide on what
you are going to see, for how long you are going to see it and with whom
(usually 50 other tourists) you will share the tour.
The point of our
message is: We
can
offer you a wonderful guided tour, in a luxuriously
comfortable and climatized vehicle (a real pleasure in the
summer heat!). The unknown Greece (as named by
Clay Perry an internationally renowned photographer in his book Vanishing
Greece) is yours for the asking either at a tavern where you can enjoy
real Greek cooking, traditional workshops
where you can find Greek
handicrafts and of course beautiful sandy beaches off the beaten track not
the usual tourist haunts.
